The Reverend Dr. Amanda Hackney is the minister in charge of our parish in Caronport Saskatchewan. This community is about 20 minutes outside of Moose Jaw. As well as leading the parish, she also teaches theology at nearby Briercrest College.
Asked in an Explorers Zoom Interview how she handled work as a co-vocational pastor she answered " I see my primary work as catechesis, and essentially I do the same task in both places". Most of the congregation is associated with the College, with the average age for parishioners, of just 25 years.
Bishop Mike visited at Easter and there were 13 Confirmations and 1 Reception plus a Baptism. As with many student ministries there is a lot of turnover, and big changes after the term ends.
Amanda recently worked as an executive pastor for an ACNA parish in South Carolina, It started as a church plant in 2018, and her work was to help it become established as an ongoing parish structure. Amanda's husband Charles leads the Psychology Department at Briercrest which has an extensive variety of programs. Briercrest is just getting ready to host a Prairie Youth Conference for 2100 young people.
With the young congregation of approximately 50 there are many possibilities for encouraging vocations in the Church. Amanda has just the teaching and leadership skills to foster and encourage future ministries.
